Climate Adaptation Consultancy
with Monami Miyamoto

I currently work in the private sector, through consultancy projects on climate adaptation. My work is focused on climate finance projects in emerging markets and often involves working for multilateral agencies and development organisations. Most recently, we worked on facilitating the involvement of the private sector in mobilising climate finance towards small-scale adaptation projects. Climate adaptation is often overlooked compared to climate mitigation, in part, because quantifying adaptation benefits is usually trickier than measuring how much CO2 emissions have been reduced. Furthermore, climate adaptation approaches can be highly varied across contexts and are therefore still an evolving area with lots to learn from. Whilst climate finance has increased in recent years, it still falls significantly short of the estimated USD 180 billion needed at the global scale. Without creating an ecosystem for private sector players to also invest in important adaptation projects, it will be difficult to improve the current tragedies of climate-induced loss and damage. Going forward, I hope to get more involved in projects that explore the intersectionality of climate finance, natural ecosystems, and gender.
