I created a demo garden, established to empower refugees with skills in climate-smart agriculture for self-sustenance. The initiative is timely as COVID -19 has disrupted food aid leading to hunger. The production of food by refugee households will reduce challenges of hunger as well as reduce food miles which have a big carbon footprint. We are engaging 2 schools to implement practical and context-relevant environmental education: we guide the students to explore their natural environment and facilitate them to design simple projects like tree planting, school gardens, compost pits, etc., which they later execute. The aim is to equip them with practical skills in food production and environmental conservation which can have a ripple effect in their homes.
